Chances of being hit by enemy fire?

Postby d4rklqrdnem3sys » 28 Jul 2012 16:43

So I was wondering...

Crayven units thread on the ground/terrain, and Order or Phoenix units hover above it.

Units that are going ON the ground might sometimes be obscured or even covered by terrain unevenness or miniature hills often present, making them unable to participate in some firefights though also giving the enemy less chance to fire at them or hit them with projectiles.

Units that are ABOVE the ground, on the other hand, lack the chance of being covered by the terrain itself when, for example, suddenly deciding to retreat and making an effort to do so.

It all comes down to the phenomena that units have a certain existent *height profile above the ground* by default, forcing them to benefit or suffer-from-the-lack-of "map bumps" located all around.

And my question is: Is this an implemented/inherited active gameplay mechanic inside Ground Control or is it absent? It seems to be a viable possibility.

(...and I am not just talking about units hiding behind MOUNTAINS, I am not stupid! :D )

Units seem to have different hitboxes, yes. How much space underneath a hoverdyne is counted as part of that hitbox, I don't know... In the end it doesn't have much impact on gameplay. Are Cray mains slightly harder to hit than OND heavies? Probably.

The most common reason for missing special weapons is human error (i.e firing at a perpendicular angle), not whether a unit is floating and/or large.

I recognized one time my Arty was completely hidden behind a rock, and although of this fact, she got hit by some mid hoverdyns. right in the face. :x
