Special Weapons and Equipment tactics

Postby d4rklqrdnem3sys » 19 Jul 2012 13:09

Hi people, I think this should be a great thread to start and dispute about, I even have my first question of which I had this thread idea in the first place!

IMAGE INTENSIFIER and it's other faction counterparts (3 uses as I remember it)

It is said that it enhances a unit's/squad's "range"!

My questions are:

(1). Is it about firing range or view range? (And do the effects show when using *R*button unit range?)

(2). More importantly, does anyone have any information on when one or where one or who could benefit and how from this piece of equipment? I, so far, have found it really useless.

thx

(post other questions people)

Its about view range. I have occasionally used image intensifier for drone on very hilly maps, basically creating mobile radar. It has 4 uses which last 1 minute. Increased range isn't shown under unit range, but for drone (which has relatively small standard view range) increase is quite significant. Not exactly twice of the standard but imo quite close.
Although gotta remember then you have it, its easy to forget that you don't have shields and end up losing drone due that :D

OK. Next up is:

VORTEX FIELD (2 charges?)

It is supposed to cloak an entire area of units, but I haven't seen any enemies of mine use it and not knowing if it actually works so I don't trust it.

Could someone post pictures of it showing how it works? You know, when you see the enemy supposedly disappear within the so called field!

Image intensifier also allows you to see through hills with units like templars aswell. Vortex looks just the same to you when your opponent uses it. I guess the advantage is that you cannot target units that are inside the vortex. Shielding units inside a vortex can lure opponents into wasting special weapons as people tend to shoot moonbursts into it. My main issue with vortex apart from it being pretty useless is that then all of a sudden you are lumped with a squad of light hoverdynes. And they are turds.

OK. New question:

Can a DEPLOYABLE REPAIR STATION (2 charges) repair any other deployed weapons or equipment?

What is the most powerful weapon in the game?
(do not consider area or line of effect, and ignore number of uses)

I'm guessing such nominees as Nuclear Napalm, Tactical Nuke, Tactical Nuclear Bomb, Hyper Rocker, Atmospheric Ionizer, Focus Prism...etc...
